capioIT announces Leadership in the Australian Infrastructure Services Market

capioIT has announced the release of the 2013 Australian Infrastructure Services Capture Share report. This extensively researched report supports Australian technology buyers by evaluating key strengths and weaknesses of 16 leading Infrastructure Services providers in Australia.

Enterprises buyers of infrastructure services in Australia are fortunate to have a significant choice in providers due to the highly competitive market. These providers offer a spectrum of capabilities from cloud to traditional IT Outsourcing, including Managed Services. Leadership in the Australian Infrastructure Services market rests with Hewlett Packard (HP). Telstra, CSC and Dimension Data follow very closely behind. These firms are the only “Market Makers” (the primary rank in the Capture Share model) in the study. All four vendors have been at the forefront of transitioning organisational infrastructure requirements from a traditional outsourcing model towards varied models of service delivery that best meets business requirements and performance measurement.

Key strengths of the highest ranked providers include

  • HP  – Investment in the Aurora data centre has enabled differentiation
  • Telstra – Strong partnering reinforces capabilities and network centric approach
  • CSC  – had the focus to invest early in cloud in Australia and has a range of offerings
  • Dimension Data  – Strength in the mid-market and a strong focus on client delivery

It is worth noting that Telstra is the highest ranked of the Australian owned vendors included in the study.

Mr. Hassey notes that success is clear, “whilst the transition of infrastructure services from a traditional outsourcing model to cloud is far from complete, the leaders in the Australian Infrastructure services market have worked to ensure choice of delivery model for clients. “

Highlighting the changing market is the entry to the Australian market in late 2012 of public cloud juggernaut Amazon Web Services (AWS). It was ranked in the report as the only “Transform” provider. This is a clear acknowledgement of the impact it has had on the market. With increased scale, depth of capabilities that span across the range of Infrastructure Services, it is anticipated it will increase its influence in 2014 and beyond.

The drivers for the adoption of Infrastructure as a Service as a delivery model for Infrastructure Services are evolving almost as quickly as the service provider marketplace. Whilst the traditional driver for cloud and outsourcing is cost efficiency, capioIT has identified that through 2014, the focus on cost management will be matched with the requirement to deploy cloud solutions that enhance business agility for both IT and business users. Vendors need to ensure that they can continue to offer cost management, but increasingly enable agility and business engagement if they are to maintain or grow their position in the Australian Infrastructure Services Capture Share Report.

Vendors included in the Australian Infrastructure Services Capture Share Report were:

AWS

CSC

Dell

Dimension Data

Fujitsu

HCL

HP

IBM

Macquarie Telecom

Optus

Tech Mahindra

Telstra

Unisys

UXC

Verizon Business
